Restaurants, salons, and retail businesses will all be allowed to open by the end of the month. San Benito Safe program aims to boost consumer confidence. Businesses that register and meet the standards will receive a decal in the form of a sticker.

The Rotary Club of San Benito held its last event of the year, dubbed, "Santa Claus is Cruising Through Town". This is the first time this event has been held due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The city was divided up into six zones for the event.

The San Benito Chamber of Commerce will host a Meet the Candidates event on April 23. The event is open to all citizens to come and speak with the candidates. There is no official list of who has confirmed to attend, but an open invitation has been sent out.

Melissa Maldonado is the new executive director of the San Benito Chamber of Commerce. She graduated from the University of Texas at Brownsville in 2008 and worked her way up through the ranks in Cameron County's legal and business community before returning to the valley last year.

The San Benito Chamber of Commerce will host its first annual golf tournament on July 31. Proceeds from the tournament will go toward scholarships for students. The tournament will be held at River Bend Resort and Golf Club in Brownsville, Texas. Registration is open to the public.

The San Benito Chamber of Commerce hosted a back-to-school bash on Aug. 7. The event was in conjunction with the Children's Advocacy Centers of Cameron and Willacy Counties (Monica and Maggie's House). School supplies were given away by each sponsor.
